It was yet another thrilling weekend as the Lions League returned to the Kings Park Stadium for their game week 5 following a break last week and there were definitely many talking points including Jabulani’s drawing streak and the intensifying battle for the final two positions but there is still much more.
With Ebicuncu continuing a stellar start to the season, their quest for the shield were boasted as they overcame Kisyanga 2-0 in a highly intensive match on Sunday afternoon to remain top of the log. Kisyanga went a man down after their player received matching orders for foul play and couldn’t pull off a surprise result.
Aaron Ndahura scored twice as Abashweki thrashed Omujuma to go second on the league table. Paul was also on target ensuring the team comfortably sealed their 3:0 victory over bitter rivals Omujuma who are trying to turn their bad start to the season around.
Other results saw Jabulani fail to capitalize on Kalele’s inadequate squad depth to secure their first win of the season. Jabulani had a goal disallowed in the first half leading the game to come to halt for sometime and Tyson should have made a break through shortly before full time but was denied by the wood work. They have now secured 5 draws from 5 games.
Meanwhile Kabali held off Nshera playing out to a 2-2 draw in the early encounter of the day as both teams remain tied with 5 points away from the table leaders.
Kajogo and Kafubs also played out to 1-1 draw though the battle for Bweras was far from being over as they proceeded to penalty shoot-outs with Kajogo emerging the winners.
Shimba secured their first win of the season by 2-0 against Kachanchali and Machando lost by a goal to Abazibu as Kashoro pulled off yet another season surprise when they won 2-0 against their noisy Mugudu.
Last season’s bottom placed team have now secured more points (7) than they did throughout the previous season. Could they be on their way to rejuvenation? Only time will tell.
The league continues next Sunday with another round of entertaining matches but till then the conversation continues on our social media platforms @ntare_league on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
