Team Kafubs a cohort of lads who were at the Den between 1999-2004 brought together by a strong bond of brotherhood and vision for success has played in the Lions Football League since its inception. Founded as 99ers, the club later changed name to Team Kafubs.
The name Kafubs is imitative of slang at the School dating back to 1980s. Neighbouring the school is “Kajogo”, an infamous slum where students escaped to enjoy “extra-curricular entertainment” in video halls. The preferred genre of movies was referred to as “akafubire” which later evolved to “Kafubs”. The name doesn’t reflect the exact actions of the members but it was espoused to emphasize its association to the school culture and the role it played in keeping a healthy balance between work and play.
The strong Kafubs bond has resulted into various break away initiatives including “The 99ers’ Saving & Investment Club” and “The 99ers’ Farmers” in addition to the “Kafubs football team”. We are also involved in some charity initiatives like the “Save Behena Cancer Fund”. Mr. Behena, a students’ favourite was an out-spoken Biology and Chemistry teacher who advocated for students’ rights.
Kafubs FC is a founding member of the NLL and has been an ever-present fixture in the league since its inception. Among a host of influential players, notable mentions include the current, most successful and longest serving League President; Davis Arinaitwe Karashani, Past Captains; Muyonjo Bengo, Ataremwa Edmund, Muhebwa Cedric, Lanek Walter Eric and Kansiime George, Current Captain; Kevin Ninyesiga and some seasoned seniors like Ronald “Ronaldo” Niwagira, Amos “Gattuso” Tumuhimbise, Gerald “Mauda” Muheirwe, Abbot Abamanya to mention but a few. In Dan “Crespo” Tumwesigye and Wilson “Nino” Musinguzi we boast of the leagues Most Improved Players (MIP) for the last two seasons running.
With a backroom team led by Robert “Robobb” Baguma (Team Manager), Albert Ahabwe (Team Coach) and Davis Atwiine (Advisor), Kafubs is the only team to get a positive result from Bweras FC last season and our aim is to mount a steady title challenge this season to return to the summit where we belong.
