It is exactly 10 days to the Lion League Season 12 final at Ntare School in Mbarara. One of the finalists is Team Ebicuncu who have participated in the last two finals unsuccessfully. We caught up with Ebicuncu forward Bruno Bongyereire and below are the excerpts;
QN: Twice at the final successively, did you ever dream that you’ll make a third time consecutively when this season was starting?
With Team Ebicuncu, we had no doubt we would sail up to the finals. We always start our seasons with the same commitment that we end with. Even when we meet hurdles (necessary and unnecessary), we always march on with our resilience unimpaired.
QN: How prepared are you for the final this time? Will your fans finally bask in victory?
We are more than prepared, victory is ours; we have disappointed our fans twice but not this time. We will give the final our all and with God on our side, we shall finally emerge NLL Champions. The team is in very good spirit and they’re highly inspired to win this time. It will be a wonderful display of football.
QN: What are your plans with the NLL shield if you finally win?
Now that is our secret. We won’t preempt it. And better, we want you to keep imagining what wea re going to do with the shield. Will we take it to Mars? Will we use it to extend an invitation to senior OBs like President Museveni to be part of the league? Just keep guessing and wait for what we will do with the shield.
QN: We miss Ebicuncu of Season 8. Any chance that you’ll have them at the final in Mbarara?
Those who manage will come to support their sons who are ably representing them and carrying the Ebicuncu flag in the skies. Majority of them have now got very busy schedules and I hope that the greater members of the league will appreciate that. But the originals still hold the league in high regard and would appreciate spending some time with us all.
QN: You’re facing a team that you drew with during the season under very controversial circumstances, does that affect your preparations for the game in any way?
No, we are preparing. They won’t be as lucky this time round.That is all I can say. My only request to the league committee is to double the budget of security and ensure that SF doesn’t hang around the goal posts again – because who knows? Our dear former league treasurer may be looking for a déjà vu moment.
QN: We wish you all the best in the final. Any last words?
Thank you; we are assuring you of our long-awaited victory. We are excited to be going back to Mbarara and at Ntare School. We expect a very memorable time there.
Editor’s note: In their in-season meeting, Nshera and Ebicuncu drew 0-0 in a highly controversial game that saw Nshera Midfielder SF get red carded and subsequently banned for five league matches after he denied a goal scoring opportunity as a substitute.
